PRESS RELEASE
It’s
Velma calling!
(Voice
Electronic Library Message Access)
When
Velma phones your home, you’ll know Fort Saskatchewan Public
Library has a message for you. It could be that the title you’ve
reserved is now ready to be picked up. Or it may be a reminder about
some titles you have overdue. But, better yet, you can call Velma
back and do more library business over the phone. This service is
available anytime, day or night for your convenience. Our new phone
messaging system (Velma) allows you to call the library and renew
a book or other library material from your touch-tone phone. Or you can
call “her” to find out what items you have out or what holds are ready
for pick up. You can cancel a reserved title if you change your mind.
Velma can tell you what specific items you have overdue and can
state your current fines so you’ll know before you arrive at the
library.
This new messaging system, voice electronic library
message access (a.k.a Velma), with its variety of options should be very
popular as an alternative to the Internet for managing your library
account from home. Velma will leave a message on answering
machines or voice mail if you’re not available to take the call. In
order to call “her”, keep this number handy – 417-2171. A guide to
using this service is available at the circulation desk at the library.
This enhanced service will be available to Fort
Saskatchewan Public Library patrons beginning October 26th, 2004 during
Alberta Library Week, October 24th – 30th.
